A Note on the Changes at Artwrld

Artwrld 2.0
After nearly a year of careful consideration and workshopping the next phase for Artwrld, I’m excited to announce that we’ve found a compelling vision for our evolution, which we’re internally calling Artwrld 2.0. We are officially launching tomorrow, but feel free to see the new site here.

What happened at Artwrld 1.0
Artwrld 1.0 was an achievement in many ways. We became one of the most respected groups in the art and NFT space, collaborating with highly talented and renowned artists. Our works were acquired by prestigious institutions like the Pompidou Center and SFMOMA, and one of our pieces even graced the cover of Art in America magazine. We created exceptional art and experiences.

However, while I firmly believe in the transformative power of blockchain technology, I’ve come to realize that the audience we aimed to reach wasn’t quite ready for this business model—not yet, at least.

Lessons Learned
Despite the challenges, Artwrld taught us valuable lessons. At its core, Artwrld thrived by bringing together world-class artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts.

As we move forward, we’re relaunching with a focus on offering weekly conversations with the visionaries who are shaping the future at the intersection of art and technology. We will host live talks with artists, technologists, art professionals, and entrepreneurs who are fusing art and innovation to address real-world challenges and create a more beautiful, flourishing, and inspiring reality.

These conversations will feature major voices in the art world, including Mark Glimcher, CEO of Pace Gallery, and digital visionaries like Kevin and Jenn McCoy, Aurea Harvey, Anicka Yi, and Refik Anadol.

Our Host
We’ve assembled a new team, including Andrew Goldstein, who will be hosting these discussions. Andrew was the Editor-in-Chief of Artnet for seven years, where he established it as the leading online art destination; he was also host of Artnet’s Art Angle podcast, building it into one of the world’s most popular art podcasts. While Nato Thompson and Walid Raad will continue as friends, investors, and advisors, they will not be actively participating on the platform at this time.

What Will Happen to the NFTs
I’m acutely aware of the legacy of Artwrld and the works we’ve produced. I’m currently in discussions with a highly reputable platform to ensure these works are properly stewarded. I’ll share more details in the coming weeks.

Our Community
My goal is to create the most dynamic and innovative community at the intersection of art and technology. We’re starting with live conversations, but we have many exciting plans in store. As our earliest supporters, we certainly want to reward your early dedication. We also want you to be part of shaping this new vision and exciting opportunity for the art world.

Launching Soon
We’ll be sending an email soon with more details on the conversation series. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at josh@artwrld.com.

All the best,
